3 Types of "Works"

The New Testament talks about three kinds of "works." Good works are good works with good motives. Bad works are good works with wrong motives. Ugly works are sinful works. There are no works to do FOR right standing with God, but there are plenty of works to do BECAUSE OF right standing with God! God is not asking for our ability. God is just asking for our availability.

The Holy Spirit should be our # 1 teacher. He is looking for us to be partners with Him - partners that know how to draw from His power and partners that know His will!

We are being built up as a spiritual house. The foundation that Jesus built for us puts us in right standing with the Father, and we can build on that foundation!

"For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." (1 Cor. 3:11) The foundation has been laid by Christ. We cannot re-lay it, but we can build on it. It's time to build on top of that foundation!

Seeking first the Kingdom of God requires a decision - a decision to be spiritually employed by God for His Kingdom purposes. Renewing our mind to His Word, avoiding the fear of man, and keeping our schedule open for Him are action items that pave the way for more of His Kingdom to come through us.

We carry a powerful message. The Gospel is alive. We need to wake up to the work that needs done in the Kingdom of God! Matt 6:33 "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." If your thinking doesn't line up with the Word, tell your mind to get in line. Matt 6:33 is a decision. Seek FIRST the Kingdom!

Jesus' obedience purchased our right standing with God, but our obedience matters as well. First, our obedience is essential to our transformation (i.e. maturation) process in the Lord. Secondly, our obedience carries with it great gain/reward both here on earth and in heaven. Christ's obedience is the foundation on which we build with works not FOR righteousness, but FROM righteousness.

“But now, the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed...even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.” (Romans 3:21-22 ) When Adam sinned, it was by one man’s disobedience that sin entered the world, and death through sin. So, just as through one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” (Rom 5:19) What a powerful truth! Our righteousness is based upon the obedience of another – Jesus! The righteousness we stand in is based on the work of ONE! And His work is done! There is ONE Man who made me right with God! Not me! It is solely based on the finished work of Christ! This is why Paul instructs us to "take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ." (2 Cor. 10:5)

Second part of a message on what the New Testament teaches about confession. When we sin, our sin comes as new news to us, but not to God. Remember that God saw it all and paid for it all in His Son. Thank God for what He has given you as a gift - right standing with Him (righteousness)! (Romans 5:17)

First part of a message on what the New Testament teaches about confession. Many believers think we must confess our sins to God in order to "be reconciled" to Him. While there is nothing wrong with wanting to do that, it is not necessary according to the New Testament and actually can serve to perpetuate a "sin focus" for the believer wanting to "stay right" with God. While we need to confess our sin and thereby our need for a savior to receive salvation (1 Jn 1:9) and confess our transgressions to one another in order to be restored relationally to each other (James 5:16), God has already dealt with ALL of our sin from His perspective and simply needs us to believe in what Jesus did on the Cross on our behalf!

As believers, one of our greatest calls is to bring the Kingdom of God to this earth! We all were born with a deep, abiding hunger for that call. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done - a hunger for the great commission! But "a satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.” (Prov. 27:7) So the question is, "how hungry are YOU?"

There is no more important message than the message of grace. The truth of grace is the foundation on which all other truth is built. Unfortunately very few children of God have a solid foundation in grace. This message is a SUMMARY MESSAGE on grace that Pastor Brad Ettore gave at Christian Fellowship Church. Worth a review for all of us!
